Cardiac Stress MRI
Cardiac stress MRI scans enable us to establish the existence or absence of circulatory disorders of the heart muscle with no radiation and minimal impact on your health. This method is an alternative to a diagnostic examination with a cardiac catheter as well as an effective measure to control your health after a heart attack or stent implantation. The examination proceeds like a normal cardiac MRI scan as far as possible.
During the examination, a medication (usually adenosine) is injected intravenously for 3 to 4 minutes in order to artificially raise the heart rate for a short amount of time. The patient feels as if he were climbing up a flight of stairs. However, these symptoms disappear in a few seconds.
Additionally, an MRI contrast agent is injected into your arm in order to assess the circulation of the heart muscle at the increased performance.
Throughout the whole procedure, all your vital signs are monitored by our competent team.
The examination lasts about 40 minutes. It is important to refrain from the following on the day of the examination:
- coffee (even decaffeinated coffee)
- tea (even herbal tea)
- cola or energy drinks
There is nothing special to consider following the cardiac stress MRI scan.
